In Martinique, the climate is characterized by two fundamental seasons:
Lent and wintering are separated by two more or less marked off-seasons.
LENT
It is a period of anticyclonic regime, with the Azores anticyclone shifting to the south. The differences in pressure, well marked on the tropical Atlantic direct on the West Indies a flow of trade winds regular and sustained in strength and direction. This provides a feeling of comfort thanks to the significant ventilation. Maximum temperatures reach 28 to 30 degrees in the afternoon. The weather is sunny with little rain. The clouds, not very developed, give a few showers, mainly during the late part of the night.
WINTERING
It is a warmer and more humid period, with the Azores anticyclone moving northwards and the decreasing strength of trade winds.
The ZCIT (intertropical convergence zone or equatorial convergence zone) is close to the Antilles. The northeast trade winds from the northern hemisphere and the southeast trade winds from the southern hemisphere come together. The showers are more numerous and sometimes intense. They usually occur in the afternoon. Higher temperatures reach 31 to 32 degrees in the afternoon. The humidity is very high and the wind often weak, sometimes giving a feeling of heavy weather and climatic discomfort.
